Jamie Lynn and the Long Road Ahead

AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill

Jamie Lynn Spears is a topic I've steered away from. Usually on All Things Scorpia, I'm very opinionated and sarcastic, but to me this is a bigger and broader issue than most think. You know the notion that 16 yr old girls don't get pregnant is a sad assumption, in fact 41.9 births per 1,000 in 2006 were charted in the United States. Why do people think that celebrity puts you in a new category other than a higher tax bracket. Jamie plays a character on a television show, yes I know it's Nickelodeon, but when did we become so clueless? We know damn well there's no such thing as a perfect teen. The real question needs to be, what responsibility will Nickelodeon burden? Will they make a teen pregnancy campaign featuring their beloved Zoey, I mean Spears? Please keep in mind that Zoey is not Spears and vice versa. The new season has wrapped and will premier in February on the network. So a tough decision lies ahead for the channel.

It's crazy to me how we criticize people, but won't get our own households in order! I admire the fact that Jamie is willing to go through the most difficult process in life. I'm a mother and it's one of the most hardest, rewarding life-style changes you could ever imagine. She could have hid it from everyone and had an abortion or disappear and come back with twins! I'm not saying that her speaking out on her private life doesn't have anything to do with her sister getting all the shine. I mean seriously, being 16 and spoiled has never been better. I definitely think that our childhood has a lot to do with the person we are in present day. I'm sure everyone knows that the father is an alcoholic and the mother is an on-hold author on parenting, but the trailer park family from Louisiana has many other family secrets that I'm sure will rear its ugly head! I don't think that anyone would've prevented this. If young people want to have unprotected sex then that's just what they'll do, we can't stop them! The only powers parents have is the back-hand and communication skills. We can talk to them and tell them the consequences of their actions. We can use the back-hand when they talk back and be disrespectful, but locking them up in a room so they won't open their legs is not a solution. Parents these days want to text hello to their children or sit-down and talk when they have dinner at The Ivy. Who's to blame in the situation? In my honest opinion, magazine covers, videos, the idea that love is sex.... in other words the world we live in is full of holes and we can't fill them until the need for change is universal!

Estrorade: New Sit on the Bench Energy Drink!

You're probably wondering what the hell am I talking about! Tracy McGrady has to be one of the most whining, tender, multi-million dollar basketball players I've ever seen. This dude totally needs to be traded or reprimanded for refusing to take a MRI on his sore knee. He's said that taking the test may reveal something, well duh Tracy. We need to know the problem, so you can be repaired, like the tin man without a heart or the whining lion who needs courage. You pick and we'll play! The reason why Ko-baby and Allen " the truth" Iverson are worthy of the dollars is, because they're leaders and ballers, I mean at least A.I. anyway! Seriously, some of the WNBA players are tougher than you. Yao is better conditioned this year, but he needs a tough teammate that can be on the floor with him. Shaq and Kobe worked, because neither was really hurt and if they were, you'd never know it. The task was the playoffs and then the championship, they made all of the above a reality. Please take a look at the following commercial and you'll understand why Iverson is one of the realest basketball players on the hardwood to date. Tracy watch and learn......

Jennifer Love Hewitt Loves Her Body

Jennifer Love Hewitt, the cute, sweet and sometimes naughty actress is firing back at media and bloggers for saying that she is fat. TMZ reported the story on their website on the 28th of November. Why is my response to the pics so delayed? I felt guilty for all the food I ate over the holidays, that's why! I don't understand the weight issue in Hollywood. I know that skinny is in, but who wants to look like Amy Winehouse and Mary-Kate Olsen. I think she looks healthy and absolutely gorgeous. Hewitt posted on her personal site that, " she's upset for all the girls out there that are struggling with their body image. You go girl! At least you're not some pill-popping, crack smoking, eat nothing but lettuce type of chick. If she gains another 10 pounds, then she's pregnant!

What's Your Opinion?

AP Photo/Marie Claire

I wasn't sure about the title of this post. I've backspaced so many damn times it's not even funny! I know it's sexy and expressive, but why do celebrity women pose naked on a magazine? I'm a mother and to me, exposing your pregnant belly is not a way to gain respect. In my opinion, it's an intimate delight that should be kept between mother and father. In the 90's Demi Moore did it and lets not forget Britney Spears a couple of years ago. I just don't see the point, maybe I'm just old-fashioned. Halle Berry will probably be the next hot celeb to expose their belly for the world to see. I mean don't get me wrong, a cute little Pea in the Pod outfit with a little belly exposure isn't that boo! It's the nakedness I have a problem with. Oh well keep up the good work ladies, I'm sure your boy or girl will be very proud. OMG, I just had a Marie Osmond moment, reports are surfacing that Britney is preggers with her third child! Please let this be one of those out there rumors that came from the mouth of a stoned party goer that met Brit in the hallway!

Tyra and the Vagina Episode

I love Tyra, but sometimes she really gets on my nerves. Did she really think that she was giving all the women around the world who suffer from horrible cramps some new remedies? I mean seriously girl, most of us started the menstrual cycle in our pre-teen years, so we've tried everything!!! This clip comes from her Vagina Episode that came on this week. She also had a doctor on that displayed a stuffed vagina to explain where everything is located. Tyra said, " pee doesn't come from the hole where the baby comes out!"

Finally! J.Lo Confirms

AP Photo/Lynne Sladky

Wow! I'm so shocked that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant, I mean there was no reason to suspect that she is expecting. The star didn't reveal how many months she is, but looking at the photo, I'd say a good 7 months. I'm happy for her especially since her latest album, Brave seriously flopped. Congrats J.Lo and Mark!

Deaths Caused by Staph Could Exceed Those Caused by A.I.D.S.

This is one instance that I will post verbatim about a topic. I think it's very important information and I want to make sure that my readers get the full 411!

CHICAGO (AP) — More than 90,000 Americans get potentially deadly infections each year from a drug-resistant staph "superbug," the government reported in its first overall estimate of invasive disease caused by the germ. Deaths tied to these infections may exceed those caused by AIDS, said one public health expert commenting on the new study. Tuesdays report shows just how far one form of the staph germ has spread beyond its traditional hospital setting. The overall incidence rate was about 32 invasive infections per 100,000 people. That's an "astounding" figure, said an editorial in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association, which published the study. Most drug-resistant staph cases are mild skin infections. But this study focused on invasive infections — those that enter the bloodstream or destroy flesh and can turn deadly. Researchers found that only about one-quarter involved hospitalized patients. However, more than half were in the health care system — people who had recently had surgery or were on kidney dialysis, for example. Open wounds and exposure to medical equipment are major ways the bug spreads.

In recent years, the resistant germ has become more common in hospitals and it has been spreading through prisons, gyms and locker rooms, and in poor urban neighborhoods. The new study offers the broadest look yet at the pervasiveness of the most severe infections caused by the bug, called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. These bacteria can be carried by healthy people, living on their skin or in their noses. An invasive form of the disease is being blamed for the death Monday of a 17-year-old Virginia high school senior. Doctors said the germ had spread to his kidneys, liver, lungs and muscles around his heart.

The researchers' estimates are extrapolated from 2005 surveillance data from nine mostly urban regions considered representative of the country. There were 5,287 invasive infections reported that year in people living in those regions, which would translate to an estimated 94,360 cases nationally, the researchers said.

Most cases were life-threatening bloodstream infections. However, about 10 percent involved so-called flesh-eating disease, according to the study led by researchers at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 988 reported deaths among infected people in the study, for a rate of 6.3 per 100,000. That would translate to 18,650 deaths annually, although the researchers don't know if MRSA was the cause in all cases.

If these deaths all were related to staph infections, the total would exceed other better-known causes of death including AIDS — which killed an estimated 17,011 Americans in 2005 — said Dr. Elizabeth Bancroft of the Los Angeles County Health Department, the editorial author. The results underscore the need for better prevention measures. That includes curbing the overuse of antibiotics and improving hand-washing and other hygiene procedures among hospital workers, said the CDC's Dr. Scott Fridkin, a study co-author. Some hospitals have drastically cut infections by first isolating new patients until they are screened for MRSA.

The bacteria don't respond to penicillin-related antibiotics once commonly used to treat them, partly because of overuse. They can be treated with other drugs but health officials worry that their overuse could cause the germ to become resistant to those, too. A survey earlier this year suggested that MRSA infections, including noninvasive mild forms, affect 46 out of every 1,000 U.S. hospital and nursing home patients — or as many as 5 percent. These patients are vulnerable because of open wounds and invasive medical equipment that can help the germ spread.

Dr. Buddy Creech, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University, said the JAMA study emphasizes the broad scope of the drug-resistant staph "epidemic," and highlights the need for a vaccine, which he called "the holy grail of staphylococcal research." The regions studied were: the Atlanta metropolitan area; Baltimore, Connecticut; Davidson County, Tenn.; the Denver metropolitan area; Monroe County, NY; the Portland, Ore. metropolitan area; Ramsey County, Minn.; and the San Francisco metropolitan area.

Lauryn Hill Pregnant with Fifth Child

We were definitely miseducated, because Lauryn Hill has turned out to be a real loon. The former granny winner is pregnant with her fifth child. The father is her long-time " husband", Tuff Gong who owns the clothing line, Rohan. There hasn't been legal documents to prove that their married, but hey spiritual unions are cool too! Hill's Myspace page says that she's married and her name is Lauryn Hill-Marley. Apparently Tuff won't be able to be by her side, because he has taken off to Ethiopia. It's always sad when such a great artist goes off the rocker. I'm all for discovering self and becoming one with mother earth, but dang girl come back to reality. I wish her a healthy pregnancy and hopefully that " husband" will return from Ethiopia and be there for her.

Jennifer Lopez Pregnant and Madonna is Getting a Fresh Start

I'm sorry readers, my allergies have been going crazy! So, there's been a couple of days without posting, but with a little help from Tylenol Allergy and Sinus, I should be high and ok. Now that I've given you my sad story, lets get down to celebs, school shootings, baseball playoffs and much more.

We finally have some confirmation on Jennifer Lopez's mysterious but so obvious growing stomach. According to US Weekly, the actress is pregnant with twins! She's about 4 months pregnant and her mom is saying, Mark and Jennifer are very excited. I'm happy for J.Lo, she seems like she's having the time of her life without any club shootings, dancing husbands, and jealous waiters that try to write a tell all book! I think you can figure out who I'm talking about! So congrats J.Lo and I hope you have very healthy babies and much success on your new endeavors.

Mrs. Kabalah is leaving her record company after 25 yrs of bliss to sign a whopping $120 million deal over a period of ten years with Live Nation. The deal includes touring, merchandising, and recording. This deal sounds good to me being that Madonna hasn't really had success with anything else other than touring, but hey that brings in millions so I'm not mad at her at all! My only question is, will she still be performing when she's 60?

J. Lo is So Preggers!

Scott Gries/Getty

You still think she's not pregnant? Jennifer Lopez was on TRL today and she had that mommy glow. She talked about how hard it must be for Britney to have so much attention on her and she feels bad for the fallen star. Unfortunately, Lopez's movie starring Omarion didn't take in any cash over the weekend, but I really don't think she cares about that. Anywho, rumor has it that the producers from the David Letterman show are trying to get J. Lo to confirm her pregnancy on the show. Wow, look at late night trying to be the new Today show!

President Bush Vetoes SCHIP

10/3/07
Washington- President Bush, in a sharp confrontation with Congress, today vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have dramatically expanded children's health insurance. It was only the fourth veto of Bush's presidency, and one that some Republicans feared could carry steep risks for their party in next year's elections. The Senate approved the bill with enough votes to override the veto, but the margin in the House fell short of the required number.

Democrats unleashed a stream of harsh rhetoric, as they geared up for a battle to both improve their chances of winning a veto override and score political points against Republicans who oppose the expansion.

I'm very disappointed with Bush, but not surprised. The S-CHIP plan that seeks to help millions of children with their health care needs and heartless Bush denies them! I mean think about it, do we really want a bunch of sick children in this country. I understand that billions have been given to the program over the last five years, but this bi-partisan bill was to cover more than 10 million of our little ones in the United States. These are parents that have decent paying jobs who don't qualify for Medicaid. I could see if we were talking about lazy no good parents that are taking care of their children by using the government. It kills me how we'll support and pacify millions of people on welfare, but won't help many who are just trying to make ends meet. The cost of living is higher, the gas prices have gone up, even food is more expensive. When are we going to stop being so ignorant, these children are innocent human beings that deserve to be treated equally. We're still in Iraq fighting a war that shouldn't have happened at all. A new report just came out about Federal employees in Washington that have spent more than $146 million just on outside luxuries, such as travel and other big perks, but Bush can't help innocent children. It's just absolutely absurd and ridiculous that this man doesn't have the capacity to do good. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a child advocate, but a single mother that works hard for the money everyday and even I struggle. Fortunately for me, my employers give excellent benefits and that's the upside of working at a medical school. The children of this country are the future, these are the individuals that will pay taxes when they get older and fund our Social Security! It's really great to see all parties come together on this, not all Republicans agree, but there's a general consensus that they want some kind of health care for these children. This crosses all color lines and it's more of a socioeconomic issue than anything. I hope that Congress can bring forth a revised resolution that President Bush will adhere too!

Update: Bush is willing to spend more on the program, although he hasn't specified how much of an increase in funds there will be. That a boy! He probably felt the heat from both parties, because this veto had some serious consequences for the Republican party in next year's election.

Surrogate Mother....Grandmother????

Due to the current events in my personal life, I have been a little...lot distracted but this morning when I got to work and saw this story, I was unable to resist writing.

Due to four years of failed pregnancies, Claudia Michelle de Brito decided to find a surrogate mother. And indeed that she found in her 51-year old mother who gave birth to twins in Brazil this weekend. De Brito is an only child and none of her cousins volunteered, so Serrao (her mother) agreed to receive four embryos from her daughter. I mean from a scientific standpoint this is genetically ok because all the predispositions that the mother (grandmother-birth mother) has the daughter will have also (assuming that she is definitely her child LOL!) But I am not quite sure how I would feel if my mother gave birth to my children...just seems kind of creepy to me. Well at least the twins are healthy and are at home with family, I wish them all the best in life.

Zahara May Have Hip Surgery!

Zahara Jolie-Pitt may need surgery on her hip ! The little tot has hip dysplasia and without surgery she may have trouble walking and running in the future. Angelina and Brad definitely have a difficult decision to make, but I'm sure whatever is the best interest of their child, the pair will do just that! When Angelina adopted Z from Ethiopia in 2005, she suffered from dehydration, recovered from rickets and was severely malnourished when the couple brought her home from an Addis Ababa orphanage. I really hope she gets the corrective surgery, so she can enjoy life with a her family without suffering!

A Man Murders His Dying Wife!

Stanley Reimer was paying between $700-800 a week in medical bills for his wife Christe. It overwhelmed him and he was faced with a difficult decision, right? Mrs. Steimer weighed 75 lbs and was sick from Uterine Cancer. Stanley " selfish" Steimer kissed his blind wife and tossed her over the balcony where she died on contact. When the police arrived at the apartment he said, " she didn't jump"! He's charged with murder and held on $250,000 bond. What ever happened to till death do us part? He was not the judge of her life and it's just sad that people become cowards when it's not about them. I hope he sits in jail for the rest of his life with a picture of Christe bolted to the wall, just a reminder of his crime.

"Professionals"

So a 62-year old man who was complaining to his doctors about testicular pain, was refused help. The medical professionals refused to remove his testicles, (as he requested) so he hired other "professionals" Ok, my thing is who are these "professionals" and why would you want your testicles completely removed. So upon discussion with ms. scopria (hey girl), we were reminded that the function of the testicles is to produce sperm and sex hormones and being that he is 62 maybe he didn't want anymore children or to have sex. Police said a couple of weeks ago, two or three people operated on the man in his home. He was unconscious. When he woke up, his testicles were gone. So were his "professionals." His groin area was bleeding heavily, so he called his daughter and she called for help. So what if this man had cancer, why didn't his doctors treat him, maybe he didn't have health insurance? Poor guy!! I won't link a pic b/c that would gross and so inappropriate, but I am sure our readers know what they look like!!! ROTFLMAO!!!! SMILE!

Burn Centers Closing?

I am baffeled by this story. There are an increasing number of burn centers closing in America's hospital which may lead our nation being unable to handle widepsread burn casualties. The number of burn centers in the U.S. has dropped from 132 in 2004 to 127, and burn beds have fallen from 1,897 to 1,820, according to American Burn Association records compiled from voluntary reporting by hospitals. Mississippi, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and New Hampshire have no burn centers at all! (Don't get burned there :)!!! Sorry poor humor, I am just a little outraged that there is a place in America that would be unequipped to handle a catastophy like 2nd and 3rd degree burns. "People ought to be pretty frightened by this," said Dr. Barbara Latenser, burn center director at the University of Iowa Hospitals. "Some people who live out West, they are 800 miles from a burn center."

Robin Roberts is Recovering Well from Breast Cancer Surgery

Robin Roberts is recovering well after her Breast Cancer surgery, The Good Morning America anchor shared her personal discovery with viewers last Tuesday. She was joined by many family members that traveled from New Orleans and Mississippi to be by her side through this difficult time. I've liked Robin since her many years on Sportscenter, she's extremely intelligent and seems very genuine, which is very hard to find on television. I will be praying for her to have a speedy recovery.

Fans Ask President Bush to Pardon Isley

I know this news is a few days old, but to me it's new! Fans of Ronald Isley are asking President Bush to pardon the soul singer that was convicted of Tax evasion charges in 2005. I could say something to support " Mr. Big", but it's not going to happen. My heart goes out to him, because he's very ill with Kidney Cancer, but you still broke the law! You and R. Kelly was "Contagious" and living it up, but you weren't giving the real "Mr. Big" his dues. It's not our responsibility to be fighting for someone who has broke the law, race can not be a factor in this case. Why not petition the war, veteran benefits or something like that! Please don't take my words the wrong way, but I don't have sympathy for a person who is rich not paying his taxes, when Uncle Sam is taking almost 150.00 out of my 80 hr. check every two weeks!!!

Fran and Angelina Join Forces!

Angelina Jolie and Fran Drescher will team up to fight Cancer, both of the ladies have battled the disease in their personal lives. Angelina's mother died of Ovarian Cancer last year and Fran is a Uterine Cancer survivor. I've lost quite a few family members to this terrible disease and it's really great to see the continual support that is given to find a cure or at least an improvement of care to increase the survival rate. It's very important that as women we get our check-ups on time, this disease really doesn't care how old you are or what status you have in society. It has no names but many deaths, so remember that early detection means a greater chance of survival. Good Luck ladies with this wonderful venture!
