Hall of Famer...really!!

From the title of this post, you must think I'm questioning the induction of Michael Jordan. However, you're wrong. I'm questioning anyone who thinks that he shouldn't be. I was a little teary eyed listening to his speech which was gracious and at times classic arrogant Jordan. Even with all his scandals i.e. betting, affairs, and such, he has remained one of the most popular, well respected men of our generation. I started thinking of why this is. It simply can't be just his greatness on the court. I mean seriously we've seen a lot of skillful ball players on the hardwood.

The notion that being a professional ball player is about entertaining those that pay half their paycheck to watch you is the height of a NBA career is completely false. MJ wasn't just that guy who could entertain. He inspired people. He wasn't a Kobe Bryant that lived a privileged life in Italy or Grant Hill who came from wealth and a sports background. He came from a hard working middle class household that believed in education. Jordan was deemed to short in high school, but was determined to prove all of them wrong. Hmm..I wonder what they're thinking now. Michael "Greatness" Jordan has given so much to charity and truly believes in our children; by the way this was before the NBA forced players to participate in NBA Cares.

I wore my Js not to be the most fashionable, but to show my support and admiration for someone that seemed reachable. I salute Michael and wish him much success in all his endeavors. Hopefully, the Bobcats can pull it together and MJ can sprinkle a little magic baller dust on the players. This quote sums up why Michael IS THAT GUY!
"Don't rush to find the next Michael Jordan - there's not going to be another Michael Jordan."

Kobe Bryant and the Bulls?

Steven Freeman/WireImage.com

OMG! I'm so tired of "Ko-baby", please Lakers just trade him to the Bulls and get it over with. The season starts Oct. 30 and Kobe still doesn't have a true home. Buss, owner of the Lakers is finally ready to hear offers for the whining superstar and the Bulls are the front-runners. The Lakers are asking for the following players: Deng, Gordon, Thomas, and Noah! Wow, talk about over-haul of the team! The only problem with that deal is Bryant wouldn't have any desires to play for them if they don't have enough players that can support the ball-hogger! They're the only team I can think of that has enough cap-space and players that can equal the value of Bryant. I can only assume that Gordon would have to give up that number in the trade. He still won't compare to the greatness of Jordan! Do you think it's possible for " Big Ben" and " Ko-baby" to co-exist?

NFL Sunday

(REUTERS/Marc Serota)

Since we're on the subject of sports, how about those 7-0 Pats. I would've continued with the Patriots in the Red Sox post, but I feel they need to shine all by themselves. It's NFL Sunday and what could be more exciting than watching the Pats beat the Redskins! Also, Giants and Dolphins will play across the pond in London! The commish of the NFL is trying to push mass marketing in order to expand the NFL to Europe over the next couple of years. How popular do you think the NFL will be in Europe?

The Chargers and Texans game should be a dramatic and exciting addition to the Sunday hoopla. I have to admit, the thought of a NFL game being played near the wildfires was a little scary. It took forever for the both teams to find out where they were going to play. I totally think Goodell's decision was solely based on dollar signs. I know that the fires have died down and all, but damn to play with so much going on is a bit distracting! Oh well the show must go on and I will definitely be watching.

Pedroia and Ellsbury are the Stars of the World Series!

(AP Photo/Julie Jacobson)

Oh wow, it seems like forever since I've blogged. It has been a crazy and busy week, so I had to wait until things settled down. Anyway, lets get down to baseball shall we! Boston Red Sox as you all know is my favorite team, so I am very excited to see them beating up on the Rockies. You guys may or may not remember the butt whooping they gave to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004, well it looks like Colorado better start packing up and go on a long vacation. The rookies Pedroia and Ellsbury have been the stars of the World Series, with batting averages of .357 and .417 respectively. Ellsbury in game 3 last night had two doubles and the 3rd inning looked like a clinic by the away team. Ortiz even with a bum knee was able to come up with a huge RBI in the 3rd after striking out in the 1st inning. So it seems that my fav team is running on all cylinders and Terry Francona is pulling out all strategies to ensure a victory in Colorado. Game 4 tonight is do or die time for the Rockies!

Boston is Having the Best Week Ever!

Keith Nordstrom

Patriots made a believer out of everybody, they routed the Cowboys on Sunday 48-27 and the Red Sox and Indians are tied in the ALCS. Manny was definitely being Manny in the first two games and it seemed like the Indians had almost given up, but in Game 2 Trot Nixon started a rally and the other players followed. The Indians put up 7 runs in the 11th to top the BoSox. Manny has been batting .500 and that's mainly on 0-2 counts. Big Papi has been hustling even on a bum knee, he's been laying it all out on the field. They shall meet again on Monday in Cleveland. I hope those damn bugs aren't flying around like they did in the Yankees series! I mean that was funny, seeing A-Rod slap bugs off his pretty face, but this is my team, so no distractions please! Boston is on it's way to having the best year ever, if the Sox can stay focused and put the Indians away. Patriots have the chance to clinch a playoff spot by Thanksgiving, how crazy is that! Lets go Red Sox and keep it moving Pats!

Marion Jones Returns Gold Medals!

Marion Jones returned her five gold medals that she won at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. My goodness, talk about fall from grace. She admitted to the court that she did take THG to prepare for the games in Sydney. I just don't know why these damn athletes take that risk. I mean seriously no one expects you to be he-man, just train hard and let your talents take over. She's already in the hole financially, so this only makes it worse. I wouldn't be surprised if Wheaties wanted their money back!

Video of the Day- Manny's Walk-Off HR

Come on, were you expecting anything else!! Yanks not so much, their down 2-0 against the Indians!

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Lets Go Red Sox!!

My dreams of another ALCS showdown between the Yanks and BoSox may come true, but they will both have to get through some really hard nose ball clubs if they want to get there! The Yanks will take on the Indians in what most critics are calling the most important series for A-Rod who is the home-run king, but in the playoffs he's never been able to step-up for the big plays. Actually, he's done nothing in the last couple of playoffs, his batting average has been .333! Sabathia will be pitching the first game against the Yanks and Beckett will be pitching for the Red Sox in Game 1. So may the best pitcher win and A-rod goes 1 for 16. I'm so glad it's October, Big Papi and Manny time!

The Clarence Thomas of the NBA!

The executives at Madison Square Garden have to shell out 11.6 million dollars to a former employee that accused Thomas of sexual harassment! Of course the defendants will appeal the decision, but I doubt that any court will overturn the decision. The last thing the Knicks need is another season that starts off on a sour note. The jury of four women and three men found Thomas and Madison Square Garden sexually harassed Anucha Browne Sanders, but it decided only MSG and chairman James Dolan should pay for harassing and firing Browne Sanders from her $260,000-a-year job out of spite. The commish isn't going to suspend or fine Isaiah, because Stern feels that it's a civil issue. My thing is, he should've been focusing on making better trades and forming a playoff team than trying to put his hand on Sander's booty, damn Zeek!

Patriots and Belichick Sued for $184 Million!

A New York Jets fan sues the Patriots and Bill Belichick for $184 Million! The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J., by season-ticket holder Carl Mayer. He's seeking damages on grounds that the Pats " deceived customers". I'm angry as hell too, but $184 million is going a little to far! What the Patriots have done is completely unforgivable, but they were punished, although I didn't agree with them, but the team was punished by the commissioner. I don't think any judge is going to award you anything other than a refund for your season-tickets and maybe a cool mil, it would be ludicrous to expect more!

The Biggest Steroid Bust in the Nations's History!

AP Photo
Federal authorities announced the largest crackdown on illegal steroids in the nation's history Monday, arresting more than 120 people and raiding dozens of labs that manufactured growth hormone for sale on the black market. Agents seized 56 labs, many of which were located in dirty basements, and recovered 11.4 million doses of steroids, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The announcement follows a growing number of scandals in the sports world over steroids, but authorities said the probe was focused on distributors, not users, and that no professional athletes were directly involved in the investigation.

Do you really believe this story had nothing to do with sports? If you do then, you're a little naive. Steroids has never been a focal point of the Drug Enforcement Administration until all the scandals in MLB. I mean don't get me wrong, a lot of investigative and sting operations are definitely under wraps, but I think the BALCO case really made agents realize that it's a really big business and there just might be something going on. I firmly believe that some players in the sports arena are definitely sweating right now. I just can't see this story not involving other players and more documents that have proof of illegal steroid use. I'm sure the commissioner of Major League Baseball is looking for a round table discussion as we speak!

Patriots Beat San Diego Despite Drama!

Nick Laham/Getty Images
So Sunday was a very interesting game. I was looking forward to see how the Patriots would come out after a turbulent week of fines and humiliation for their espionage. I think the consensus was the Patriots have enough talent to overcome any scrutiny from the general public and the sports community. They came out with such an intensity, ready to handle any team that stands in their way. Belichick was composed on the sidelines, even though I feel he shouldn't be there. I mean if you're going to suspend Wade from the Dallas Cowboys and he's only the quarterback coach, then you should definitely suspend a head coach!! Anyway, the Patriots routed the San Diego Chargers 38-14 and the troops left the field confident that no help was needed. The Chargers defense was a hot mess and Tom Brady was business as usual. I don't think this team will be going 14-2 when the season is all over! A source close to the team revealed that the Pats have a whole reference library that includes videos of other defensive strategies by other teams. If this is true and some of the video is during their Super Bowl championships then I wonder if the titles will be stripped and given to the opposite team, lets just say Philly!

" King " James Scores 31 Points to Win Gold!

Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE/Getty Images

Congratulations are in order to the U.S.A. basketball team. They received the gold medal in the F.I.B.A. tourney! Lebron " King" James shot 76 percent from the field and was 8-of-11 from three point territory. It was a close race almost to the finish line until U.S.A. just went on a rampage. They went on a 18-0 run before shutting the Argentinians down. The U.S. had already claimed a spot in the Olympics with a win in the semifinal game a couple of days before. Can LBJ continue his superb shooting when the regular season starts? I can only hope so!!

Team U.S.A. Unbeaten in Vegas!

Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty Images

Team U.S.A. is unbeaten in the F.I.B.A. Americas Tourney! Lebron James was 11 for 11 in the game against Uruguay. He hit all four of his attempted three-pointers and was on fire from every spot on the court. I watched the 1992 U.S.A. team and this is definitely not a replica, but this is the best I've seen them play in years. I think maturity and the seriousness of the task at hand is more important to the players and I'm hoping gold in the Olympics will be ours.

Sports Spread..

All the top stories in sports this week!

This is such a sad story, alcohol is such a powerful and addictive drug. It makes me believe that even though these super-stars have all this money and fame, they are really not that happy. Eddie Griffin, dead at the young age of 25.

The Texas Rangers scored the most runs by one team in a major-league game in 110 years Wednesday, thrashing the Baltimore Orioles 30-3. The scoreboards couldn't even compute that high!!!

Micheal Vick's plea is in! Admitting to conspiracy in a dogfighting ring and helping kill pit bulls. He denied ever betting on the fights, only bankrolling them. Will Michael Vick ever play football again?

Vick Has to Make a Choice and Young Should be Careful!

Michael Vick has some very difficult decisions to make in the next couple of days. He has until Friday to either take a plea deal or go to trial. In my honest opinion, if Vick wants to save any hopes of playing football again then I suggest he cops a plea and sit in jail for 6 months to a year. There are a lot of teams in the NFL that will take Vick with open arms, it will be strictly about money and the possibility of bringing more fans to the football game. The people that come to the games probably aren't fans, but when there's a story or controversy they will pay and come watch one of the greatest quarterback in the last 10 yrs. If Vick decides to go to trial, he won't be able to hide or make any excuses, because the FEDS have plenty of evidence against him. One thing about this country is second chances are common and expected in sports even though I totally disagree. Remember Jason Giambi won the Best Comeback award a couple of years ago after returning from the disabled list and the big Steroids case where he testified about his usage of the banned substance. So I would say that Vick has a 30% chance of coming back and giving a team a real shot at making some things happen, assuming of course that the team that will accept him would have a loosing record. I seriously doubt that the Patriots or Eagles would want such a headache! Vick just really needs to do some soul searching and come to terms with his terrible behavior. Dude, just face the music, serve your time and get back on the field, if the game is really what you want and competition is what you need, then I think that will rule over any endorsements that you are not going to receive. You shouldn't even waste anymore money on attorneys, save it for the day you're released from the confined space that you've been in for at least a year.

Quickie
Vince Young is Mr. Rose bowl and Madden '08 all-star, but he's heading down a bad road with his latest antics. He was benched for the pre-season opener, because he didn't stay at the team's hotel, which is not so bad, but it's the NFL and after the little mini brawl with your teammates in training camp, you need to make a serious case of dedication to your team and the league in general. It's expected that the quarterback of the Elite teams in the NFL will have a little machismo every now and then, but it's careless and stupid. Peyton Manning and Donovan Mcnabb are two of the real class acts in this league. You may have heard Owens and Mcnabb banter in the media, but never he showed up late or had a run-in with authority. Remember Young, Madden covers are suppose to be jinxed so please take head and prove the big boys wrong!!

Sports Round-Up

Hey Peeps, again M.I.A. pretty much all ayer! I enjoyed my Friday so much and by the end of the day that full belly and joy turned into sleepy and peaceful! So I figured one post for a few things would save a little front page space.

George Mitchell, the investigator for the Steroids madness has been diagnosed with low-grade Prostate cancer. The cancer is small and localized and can be treated and cured his doctor said. Mitchell has made it very clear that his health issues will not affect the probe in baseball's most popular subject! He should be releasing a report in few months, by then Barry should reach at least 770 home-runs.

Tiger Woods tied major record with 63 yesterday at the PGA Championship in Tulsa, Ok. I thought our weather was scorching, but in Tulsa it was like 104 degrees. Tiger had 8 birdies and 1 bogey, keep in mind that Woods was 7 shots behind on Thursday. Could this be number 13?

What is up with all these old-school NBA players that want to come back? It seems that Reggie Miller has inspired them all! Allan Houston from the New York Knicks has definite plans on returning to the courts. He's been an ESPN analyst for the past two seasons, hmm where can he go? Now on to Mr. Miller, Boston Celtics is really trying to lay down the red carpet for the three-point expert to un-retire and join Garnett, Pierce, Allen to become a real Eastern Conference contender. I'm not so sure about this one, I mean Jordan did it, but he's Jordan! Can Reggie make the giant leap forward and land in Beantown? Penny, Penny has signed with the Miami Heat to reunite with his buddy, the " Big Aristotle". I'm really a little reluctant about this one. We haven't gotten any opportunity to watch Penny shoot, I guess the Heat have seen him do his thing behind the practice doors. I'm really looking forward to this NBA season, I shall renew my league pass immediately!!

Well Peeps, that was the Sports Round-Up, on to celeb news...

Robin Roberts is Recovering Well from Breast Cancer Surgery

Robin Roberts is recovering well after her Breast Cancer surgery, The Good Morning America anchor shared her personal discovery with viewers last Tuesday. She was joined by many family members that traveled from New Orleans and Mississippi to be by her side through this difficult time. I've liked Robin since her many years on Sportscenter, she's extremely intelligent and seems very genuine, which is very hard to find on television. I will be praying for her to have a speedy recovery.

Jermaine O'Neal Heading to L.A.?

Why must NBA players come out in public and start demanding trades? Jermaine O'Neal attended the Annual L.A. Stars charity basketball game and in front of Brandy, Snoop, and all the other celebs, he felt compelled to share his desire to be in the "City of Angels". He did purchase a home in Los Angeles over the Summer, so maybe his wish will come true!
