Lee Der Co-owner Commits Suicide

I posted this story a week ago and it saddens me to report that Zhang Shuhong, who co-owned Lee Der Industrial Company, committed suicide at a warehouse over the weekend, days after China announced it had temporarily banned exports by the company, the Southern Metropolis Daily said. I think this is a prime example of letting work get the best of you.

I find the reporter of this article to be irresponsible and insensitive in the statement "it is common for disgraced officials to commit suicide in China." There might have been some similar suicides a year in this country of 1.2 billions, but to imply such a tragedy as just a common practice is to treat this individual and his family as just another statistics. The report later reported that "In its report, the Southern Metropolis Daily said Zhang, who was in his 50s, treated his 5,000-odd employees well and always paid them on time." Please do not treat lives as simply objects even when reporting on foreigners. The reporter should give an apology.

Thank you peter chan for your comment. I totally agree with you as far as the insensitivity that was given to this Mr.Zhangs's life. It was very hard for me to even really comment on the subject, because I'm not familiar with their customs, but I understand your frustrations. The media can be very inconsiderate and careless when reporting these types of stories. Peace and Much Love
